Intensive Outpatient Program

A focused form of outpatient treatment that coincides with your daily life

Get effective, collaborative IOP treatment: Modified over 4,000 participating patients to reach its unique approach

Our IOP program is distinct from others around the nation. After years of undergoing modifications, we have developed our own brand. Most programs provide a few hours of individual exposure sessions and you are often left to do exposures on your own. At BBI, our approach to exposure incorporates all the senses and we include personalized sessions with a team of expert clinicians who specialize in multiple disorders. We are with you whether that is in the office, at home, or any environment in which you may need support. We will get you where you want to go, side by side.

Bio Behavioral Institute offers the following:

IOP for BDD

IOP for eating disorders

IOP for depression

IOP for OCD

IOP for anxiety

IOP for teens and young adults

IOP for children

Why IOP at Bio Behavioral Institute?

Personalized 1:1 Care

We believe patients get better outcomes if the majority of their treatment is delivered in a 1:1 setting. This allows your therapist to engage in the exposures with you, modeling both the most effective and the average person's behavior in that triggering situation or activity.

You are assigned a dedicated administrative manager to guide you through your entire journey as an IOP patient from scheduling, billing, and additional support for our out-of-state patients.

Flexible, Collaborative Approach

Our interdisciplinary team meetings provide you with the combined experience and knowledge of multiple disciplines. This enables your treatment team to improve and refine your treatment weekly.

Our team will work alongside your existing mental health providers, such as your psychiatrist and weekly therapist.

5 - Star Rating

"I came to Bio Behavioral after years of being diagnosed from having neuroses to schizophrenia. It was there that I found people who understood me and helped me. They interviewed me at length and knew I had OCD. A care plan was implemented and they were with them every step of my journey .Everyone there on the team had studied OCD and knew how to diagnose and treat. I can never thank Bio Behavioral enough”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IOP Therapy?

An IOP is a structured treatment program that provides intensive support for mental health recovery while allowing participants to maintain their independence. It consists of individual sessions. The frequency and length of sessions are customized to meet your clinical needs and can occur anywhere from 6 hours a week (2 hours 3x a week) up to 15 hours (3 hours 5x a week or an alternate schedule when clinically appropriate). Sessions can be scheduled from 3 to 5 days a week. For individuals requiring a higher level of care, we offer a residential-like program.

Do You Provide a Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program?

We believe in-person therapy plays a key role in the success of your IOP journey with us. This allows us to be by your side out in the world as we face the situations driving your symptoms together. We also provide telehealth only options if clinically appropriate.

Is Family Involvement Required in the Intensive Outpatient Program for Teens?

We offer guidance for families to support their loved one's recovery and schedule family sessions as an integral component of the program.

How Long Does the IOP Last?

The initial phase of the IOP typically lasts 1–3 months, depending on your needs and goals. After this, we reassess and adjust based on your needs. Our clinical teams collaborate regularly to assess your progress & adjust your treatment plan as needed.

How Often Are Therapy Sessions Held in the IOP?

Sessions are held 3-5 days a week depending on the needs of the patient with up to 25 hours of one-on-one therapy per week.

What Types of Therapy Are Included in the IOP?

Our IOP includes CBT, ERP, group therapy, and other evidence-based practices tailored to each individual’s needs.

Does Insurance Cover IOP?

Bio Behavioral Institute is an out-of-network provider. We provide superbills to your insurance company and do all that we can to help families pay for our services.

How is the Intensive Outpatient Program Different from Inpatient Treatment?

Our IOP allows you to maintain daily activities while receiving structured, effective treatment, unlike inpatient programs that require a full-time commitment. You can go home or utilize temporary housing at the end of your therapy days.

Can I participate if I am out of state and do not have access to IOP?

We help out-of-state patients find temporary housing and when permitted continue care virtually upon returning home.
